About The Calling

The Calling is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1996 by Alex Band, the lead singer. (Go to About Alex to check his whole musical history).

​2001​​
 

• The song Wherever you Will Go (WYWG) was released on May 22nd, 2001.
   

• It was a global success. It reached the top of the charts and stayed there for a record 23 weeks straight. It was named the #1 Song Of The Decade and the #3 Adult Pop Song of All Time by Billboard Magazine.
   

• It has also been featured in a number of movies and TV shows and series including Love Actually, Coyote Ugly, Smallville, Kate and Leopold, Cold Case (Frank's Best episode) and in the early trailers in 2001 for the Star Trek prequel series Enterprise.
   

• The Calling released their first album named Camino Palmero on July 10th, 2001. It became Certified Gold and/or Platinum in over 40 countries and reached number 36 on Billboard 200.

2002 and 2003

​

• ​Alex Band had the opportunity to work with the guitar legend, Carlos Santana, and sing the huge hit Why Don’t You and I.
   

• This song has been named the #5 Song Of The Decade and the #20 Adult Pop Song Of All Time by Billboard. ​​
   

• On April 15th, 2002, The Calling released their second single, Adrienne. And on august 19th, 2002, they released their third single Could it be any Harder. 
  ​

• In 2003, The Calling recorded the song For You for the movie Daredevil. The band performed it live on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in the February 13th, 2003 episode.

2004 and 2005

​​

• Our lives, the band's next single, was released on March 29th, 2004.
   

• It was featured in the closing ceremonies of the 2004 Summer Olympics and in the opening of the 78th Academy Awards in 2005. It was also the theme song of the short lived series Clubhouse on CBS.
   

• Our Lives was well received and charted at number 34 in the Billboard Top 40 and Top 20 in countries like Denmark and Italy.
  
   

• The Calling's second album, Two, was released in June, 2004.

• It went #1 in the U.K., Japan, Brazil and Canada.

• It charted at number 54 on Billboard Top 200.
   

• The band released the singles Things will go my way and Anything and after a lenghty world tour in support of the album Two. With little support from their label, Alex and Aaron Kamin decided to disband The Calling. They played a farewell show in Temecula, California, on June 6th, 2005.

2006 to 2009

​

• ​Alex took a hiatus after touring for Two to care for an ailing family member and navigate an ever-changing music industry.  
   

• Band never gave up though, he pushed forward, writing and producing his first solo album. ​

• While pursuing his solo career, Alex played occasional shows.

2010

​

• Alex Band's first solo album, We've all been there, was released.
   

• Its first single, Tonight, became the theme song for the 2011 World Cup and once again Alex ventured out touring in Europe where the song became a hit.
   

• This time the rollercoaster was a shorter ride as Band's label went bankrupt, so Alex took it as a sign that it was time to go back to his roots, return to The Calling name that once took the world by storm.

2013

 

• On Agust 15th, 2013, Alex Band reformed The Calling with new members: Sean Kipe (guitar), Jake Fehres (bass), and Art Pacheco (drums). The band performed their comeback gig at Bally's Atlantic City on August 17th.
   

• The Calling performed at the Lapeer Days Festival, in Michigan, on August, 17th, 2013. They played their old hits, along with new music, including a song titled Better, which was rumored to be their new first single. On August 18th, however, Alex was reportedly abducted by two men that robbed him, beat him severely, and dumped him on train tracks in Lapeer, Michigan. He was taken to an emergency room at a nearby hospital, where he was treated and released. Band reportedly lost a tooth, suffered a mild concussion and needed fifteen stitches to close a wound on his chin. He needed some surgeries on his face as well.
   

• After a few more shows, the group broke up again.

2016 and 2017​

​​

• On June, 2016, Alex Band created a Patreon page to share his work, including demos, unreleased music, covers, upcoming tracks, and behind the scenes footage. His first release from the page was an unmixed demo of a solo track titled Place Inside of You, a track he performed on a livestream back in 2013.
   

• On October, 2016, The Calling reformed with new musicians. Only Alex remained as the creator and lead singer of the band. They performed in Manila, the Philippines the next month.
   

• The Australian company Unbreakable Touring announced that the band were to perform in areas such as Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Fremantle along with the rock band Juke Kartel and newcomer Mike Waters, but this was later posponed due to visa issues.
   

• On July, 2017, it was announced that The Calling would be joining Lifehouse as support acts for Live's Australian leg of their world reunion tour.

2018 and 2019

​

• The Calling returned in 2018,  having overcome every hiccup along the way!

• The band performed some shows, including in Brazil. They went there twice (once in 2018 and another time in 2019).

2020

​

• The Calling began to tour around Europe in the beginning of 2020, with locations including the U.K., Germany, Spain, Italy and Austria.
   

• After that, the band announced their Latin America Tour on their social media to celebrate their 20th anniversary of their debut album, with dates starting in December 2022 in Brazil, Argentina, Costa Rica, and Mexico. Some of the dates were later pushed to May 2023 and to 2024.

2023​

​

• On April 2023, The Calling announced a new lineup of the band: Alex Band (lead singer), Daniel Damico (lead guitar), Dom Liberati (bass).
   

• The following month, they teased production of new music, playing a snippet of a new track titled Dust.
   

• On July 2023, The Calling announced that they would play an acoustic set for the Pop 2000 Tour in Palms Casino Resort, Las Vegas, in August 19th, 2023, along with Chris Kirkpatrick, Smash Mouth, O-Town and LFO.
   

• On August 10th, 2023, The Calling collaborated with Singaporean ad agency BBH Singapore to headline Income Insurance's new "Protection" campaign with their new song titled Fallin' Apart.
   

• The Calling's song Fallin' Apart was later released as a single. This marked the band's first official release of any new material since their last single Anything back in 2004. A music video was created and released on August 16th, 2013.
   

• The works of a third album began in September 2023.
   

• On December 11th, 2023, the band posted teasers on their social media working in Minneapolis, Minnesota with award-winning record producer John Fields (who had worked on Alex Band's solo album), further confirming that new music was being made, with an expected release date in 2024.
   

• The Calling announced a 25-date Latin America Tour. Their first single from their upcoming third album, Stand Up Now, was released independently on May 3rd, 2024. During their tour, they teased another song titled Hold on me, which is confirmed to be their next single.

2024 (up to now)

​

• Alex is currently working on a new The Calling record that is promised to be their most diverse collection to date.

• He performed in his Latin America Tour, which included: Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Mexico.

• During his career, Alex faced some legal issues, which are now solved.
